How the domain checker works
When you enter a domain name and select a TLD, the tool sends a DNS lookup request to Cloudflare's DNS-over-HTTPS API. It checks whether the domain has any A (IPv4) or AAAA (IPv6) records. If DNS records are found, the domain is already registered and the tool shows the resolved IP address. If no records exist, the domain is likely available to register.
This method is fast and free. It does not replace a full whois lookup — some domains may be registered but have no live DNS — but it gives you an immediate indication for most use cases.
Why use a DNS-based checker?
Many domain checkers rely on databases that can be hours or days out of date. A DNS query is always live. It checks the authoritative name servers directly and returns current results. The trade-off is that a domain with DNS records pointing to a hosting provider is clearly registered, while a domain with no DNS records may be available or simply parked without active hosting.
